Building Features

The Future of Learning

The Cheryl and Philip Milstein Teaching and Learning Center will provide a diverse range of innovative and essential resources:

  • A library with a core collection of books and journals to support a strong liberal arts education. It will be 30% larger than our current library, allowing for expanded space for special collections and archives.

  • A “Digital Commons” with five innovative teaching labs—Empirical Reasoning Center, Digital Humanities Lab, Creativity Lab, Multimedia Lab, and Movement Lab—that utilize new media and digital technologies.

  • A Computational Science Center equipped to support students and faculty in pioneering scientific research, which physically connects to science classrooms and labs in neighboring Altschul Hall.

Additional Features:

  • Flexible, technologically-current classrooms for seminars and large group instruction.
  • Conference facilities connected to meeting and event spaces in The Diana Center.
  • Departmental offices for economics, history, political science, and urban studies.
  • New homes for two signature programs: the Barnard Center for Research on Women and the Athena Center for Leadership Studies.
  • Outdoor terraces that extend the green spaces on campus, and a newly landscaped lawn that is level with the entrance to the new building.
  • Inviting student spaces that include a café and study areas for individuals and groups.
